Yvonne and I were in gao1 yi1 shi2 er4 ban1 (1/12) and sitting right at the back of the classroom. Their tables and chairs are made from metal, the table has this dusty compartment to put things, and most of the China students have stuff it with all their textbooks. The 2 girls in front of us had milk, biscuits, chips and lots of snacks stuffed underneath, with a plastic bag hanging between their tables. The chair was quite special too, it's designed in such a way that you can hang your bag behind the chair, so that it doesn't take up your sitting place! The blackboard is movable, up and down, so to maximize the use of it and students at the back can see what's written at the bottom, and also the shorter teachers can reach. Every morning they have their zi4 xi2 ke4 On alternate days they either read aloud from a English 'dictionary' or had spelling where someone reads the chinese meaning and they writes the english word, or they listen to a tape of someone reading a short english passage and the tape is replayed 5 times. Then it was time for zao cao (morning workout) On the 1st day it seems 'clownish'to me, but after getting the hang of it it's quite ok. They actually grade their zao cao!! One morning the monitor came with a report and tell the class that they only get how many marks for zao3cao1 and asked how to improve next time. The lessons: The sciences were boring, Bio they were learning about cells, and we're susposed to identify the parts when the picture is like so unclear, for Chem they were learning about Redox Reactions, and the facts the teacher taught is different from what we learned in Singapore? oh and all those formulas names were in Chinese. weird. Physics Not a physics student, so I can't understand a thing. D n T is probably my fave subject ba, The teacher was fierce but funny, he showed them a 3D diagram, and ur susposed to draw the shape from a certain angle. oh and he scolded a student for not listening and doesn't know how to answer a question. I was hungry then lah, so when the girl in front asked if I wanted a piece of the KFC egg tarts we've seen on tv commercials in the hostel, of course I said yes la! Although it's cold, but yummy=) quite creamy. I was eating when the teacher turned his back to write something on the board and then he suddenly turn around. and the egg tart is halfway stuck in my mouth and I can't pull it out! so I quickly duck my head below the table lor..I think the teacher saw..haha..then Bong told me my mouth has egg yolk!!ha..funny incident. IT lessons was boring, the teachers com has msn but the students' one doesn't. and the computers are all some china brands, and everything is in chinese la, they were doing this powerpoint like thing, which was quite simple. PE was ok, except their wushu were quite girly, Nan2 Zong1 Quan2 is much better! and they were learning volleyballs, bouncing them on their arms, and we're already doing serves and spikes! English lessons, their teacher was on MC so that nice wang zhu ren was taking over, the only teacher that actually takes notice of us! She asked us to introduce ourselves and I said, "Hi everyone, Im Supei from Singapore, studying in NYGH, 15 years old, my cca is Theatre and I love it." in chinese and english. Chinese which is their Yu3 wen2 ke4, they were studying about kong3 zi3 Meng4 zi3 etc. chinese lit lah. chimz. but quite interesting. like our Shakespear ba..susposed to translate the text. Maths was super super boring, they were doing quadratic graphs, and the teacher is old and talks to himself. I can't hear a single thing that he said lah! around 10 students were sleeping, and after the whole lessons, the teacher said "time to wake up! next time if you sleep again I'll record your names" music was..i dunno how to say. The teacher practically spent the whole lesson telling the class how bad they were compared to others, how they don't have the brains so have to be enthu but they are not, or they are, but in the wrong way, and explaining how she has no choice but to give up the class and take another class. I don't really understand, Yvonne said she's trying to motivates them, but to me, the way she speaks make me hate her. How can she put down her students in front of them lor. History was nice n interesting. The teacher was talking about different kind of burials, like the sea burials. This is the only lesson I actually really listened. oh and just b4 hist, a fight broke out. The end results was tables overturned on a student, and another fall onto the overturned table and another piled on top while girls we standing away. Ok that's about it, it had been exactly a week since coming back, and i still miss Shanghai.
remind me to blog about: only I can probably only do 1) because my journal is still with Laoshi!!! n the details of 2 weeks are inside.
kinda maluating...haha..I also dunno y..when he said "eh u ok not? looks like want to die already..seriously u ok or not?" tears juz welled up.. random quotes from T*** "what's wrong? hamster died arh? turtle ran away in the night? No should be crawl away, emotional arh? Pms arh? " -_-\ more random quotes from someone else," boyfriend run away la" yeah right. "better what, boyfriend run away should be happy cry for what"-T*** ok, went Lim Yu's house for lunch. yummy fried rice! her house is so big...and we played mole in the hole which I won twice!!:D went back to school, watched this Jacky Chan show about his life. His injuries..is scary. Very. n he's 50 years old.
the 1st day I went we just did the usual run warmup and those movements like the xiong nu roll, brad pitt (the punching one) flying mountain etc. 2nd day which is today is open house. usual run and stretching. then went hall stage after lunch to run through the show. that's about it. Farewell Party is this Sat 27th Nov. Lim Yu's house. yepx we were susposed to each bring something. and for the roles for Mulan right, dun worry coz we only knows who's xiong nu and soldiers, n Mulan's family so far. I guess u fall in the grp that doesn't know the roles. yet. but sure got role one la anyway have fun yeah, enjoy it^_^ coz when u get back it's gonna be hell. Im dying already. seriously. and u dun get to eat any nice stuff =( Tang even refused to eat a stick of fried crabstick given at the teacher's lunch x_x
3 people shared a room, my roommates were Daisy and Jennifer. We each have a table and a cubboard thing. The bedsheets and pillow were white, except a line of red words on the centre saying Jin Yuan Gao Ji Zhong Xue. There is also a shared balcony which connects 2 dorms together. We were in 709. The baths were quite memorable, the Saunas! The cold water tap was hot(not warm) and the hot water tap was even hotter! The second week was better, but I guess we were lucky compared to those who had to bath in icy water in the cold weather. We had TV in our rooms too! and Daisy and Jen would be totally hooked on the 10 o'clock show which shows until 11.40pm. 2 espisodes per night while eating cup noodles. Sometimes I was watching with them, but doing lots of other things at the same time, like packing and writing my reflections in the journal. or I'll be over at 713 (denise, charmaine and esme's room) with Dor playing Daidee, bridge, hearts, go fish, cheat, reverse daidee, speed, etc etc, and pigging out at the same time. Other times we'll be playing mini marjong Jen brought and Yuling, Joy and Faith would come over from next door. There were the times we would decide on who's going to bath first, and who's going to wake up 1st to use the bathroom and when are we going to wash our clothes. There were the time where 1st thing after debrief on 7th level outside the lift and at the end of the corridor one of us went to chope the 2 washing machines which are workable while the other 2 of us went back to take our dirty clothes. This 2 weeks I've made my own bed everyday! haha..something I would never do at home, I mean my bed is going to be mess up again every 15 minutes so what's the point? Downstairs dorms where the China students stayed was different, 5 people to one room and 10 people sharing a bathroom. No tv, and their beds were on top, like double bunks. and they have this semi-transparent white sheet over the bed like those olden days tv shows. It's suspose to keep away bugs or something. and they each have their own table, but the room is really cramp but cosy yeah. The yummy hostel food, buffet style. We had soft drinks the 1st and last dinner lolx. We had breakfast everyday there. The nice urm lady? who help us jian1 eggs , fried and scrambled. haha..she's really nice, only the egg was swimming in oil x_x I love the egg noodles with veggies! n the bacon too, coz u can actually take away the fats! as in the fats are not stuck together with the meat! The cai4 bao1 was yummy too! Lunch and Dinners usually consist of Fish and Chicken. steamed, fried, sweet n sour, u name it. and a lot more. oh and in the lobby there's this quite big yellow banner thing saying welcome nanyang girls high school in chinese=)
Mrs Chua and Chen Laoshi rocks! "only with the right attitude can you succeed...it's the attitude they look at when you go for job interviews...this is a learning trip but the things you learnt does not stop here in Shanghai..take them back with you and apply them to your studies..next year is an important year..if your seniors can do it Im sure you can..." ... Chen Laoshi, who forces us to write our journals in chinese:P i remember her in that pink turtleneck and the grey jacket. She really nice..to knock on our doors every morning to make sure that we woke up..She was handing out medicine everyday, the luohan one, the lozengae, the cough one, the herb one, the dunnowhatone. I remember her asking me and Dot to buy food for her and we spent all 19+ RMB on Pocky etc. I remembered crashing her room one day and asking "laoshi ni ji mo ma?" She was a really good mother, almost all the books she bought from shu cheng was for her children, so sweet right. I love grp 4! We went almost everywhere together, esp the 3 days TLE programme BOINK! n formed lots of friendship, and u know what? WE'RE ALL IN THE SAME LIT CLASS!! must be destiny^_^ not forgetting Charmaine Xinyun Liting Peiying Jennifer Daisy and a lot more!! and of course my buddy gao ge and all the new China friends I've made.
